Web Hosting FAQs
Everything you need to know about SSD shared hosting, control panels, domains, and server capabilities.
What is Web Hosting?
Web hosting provides the server storage, network connectivity, and server configuration needed to make your website accessible on the internet. When someone types your domain name into a browser, the hosting server delivers your site's files and pages to them.
Can I have more than one domain name pointed to my web hosting account?
Yes. You can point additional domain names to your hosting account as domain aliases (which display the same content as your primary site) or, depending on your plan tier, set up additional separate websites within your account.
Can I host a domain name that is registered with another provider?
Yes. You can keep your domain registration and DNS provider. At the current DNS provider, apply the website records supplied with your Global MCS account, using the exact assigned IP address. Alternatively, you can delegate DNS to Global MCS using the nameservers confirmed for your account. Preserve existing mail and other service records before changing DNS providers.
How soon will my web hosting account be ready for use?
Hosting activation follows payment processing; use your activation confirmation and supplied settings to confirm that your account is ready. Website availability also depends on publishing your site and configuring the domain correctly.
DNS changes often start working within a few hours, but allow up to 48 hours as a general estimate. Existing record TTLs, resolver caches, and registry updates affect timing; this is not a guaranteed deadline.
Will I have unlimited access to update my website?
Yes. You can access and update your website content through Plesk, your content management system (such as WordPress), or the file-transfer protocol enabled for your account. This is self-service access, not a promise of unlimited staff editing or uninterrupted availability.
Will I have my own FTP access?
File-transfer access is available through your hosting account. Use the hostname, username, and protocol supplied in Plesk or your activation details. Prefer an encrypted connection: FTPS is FTP protected by TLS; SFTP uses SSH and requires SSH access to be enabled for the subscription/system user.
Do not assume FTP and SFTP use the same port or that an additional FTP account also has SSH/SFTP access. Ask support if the enabled protocol or access details are unclear.
Can I have individual FTP logins for each domain?
Yes, where your plan and permissions allow it, you can create additional FTP accounts in Plesk and restrict them to a specific website directory. Use each account's assigned home directory and encrypted FTPS where supported. Additional FTP accounts do not automatically receive SSH/SFTP access.
What type of control panel does Web Hosting use?
Our shared hosting plans include the industry-standard Plesk control panel. Plesk provides an intuitive, web-based interface for managing files, databases, email accounts, DNS settings, SSL certificates, and 1-click application installations. Available tools and limits depend on your subscription and permissions.
What are your web hosting content policies?
All content hosted on Global MCS servers must comply with applicable state and federal laws and our Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service. Spam, malware, phishing, copyright infringement, and abusive scripts are strictly prohibited.
